The new Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 41 DS
Jeanneau's new deck saloon yacht offers plenty of comfort and a completely different interior layout to its competitors

After looking at the Bavaria 42 Vision yesterday, on the first day of the Interboot trade fair in Friedrichshafen, today we travelled three stands further and onto the deck of the French rival model: the Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 41 DS.

The Jeanneau also has two wheels, electric winches and a docking system (extra charge) via joystick. The cockpit, however, is kept conventional: Two benches, with a cockpit table in between and a plotter mounted at the aft end. The first impression: the boat is very ergonomically designed. The front end of the bench seat has a smooth transition to the superstructure. So comfortable that you are sure to fall asleep on night watches.

Below deck, the ship surprises with a light-coloured wood interior and lots of windows. The brief to the design team was to create an interior from which every guest always has a clear view of the sea. This has even been achieved in the huge aft cabin, which can be reached from the galley and the WC. Although you lie under the cockpit floor, the space feels large and cosy. A sunbathing area better than at home. The aft cabin and engine installation system does indeed seem to have been reinvented, with success. There is no unused space, you can walk around the engine once.

Despite its high superstructure due to the deckhouse, the ship has a very pleasing and sporty appearance, not least due to the Chinese in the stern area. However, the price of 184,331 euros (incl. VAT) is somewhat higher than that of the Bavaria 42 Vision.

First impression from the bridge: wide stern, twin rudder system, high cockpit - but pleasing lines.
